LAMENTS OF AN INSOMNIAC

The night is tarrying longer
But my eyes are getting wider
I reach for my pillow to cringe on
And my pen to sketch my dreams on

I say a prayer to dismiss my sorrow
I split the drapes and open the window
I see the sky; starry and cloudless
The moon is full, white and stainless

Thoughts run in my head; good and silly
I don my sweater because it’s chilly
The silence is sedative, albeit creepy
I’ve become an owl; I don’t feel sleepy

As the rooster crows, heralding the dawn
The sun begins to smile, unveiling the morn.
