DAWAH BEGINS AT HOME

It’s easy to do dawah these days because there are several media and channels available for that. If you can’t go out and give lectures, you could post admonitions on Facebook, WhatsApp, upload a video on YouTube, put a postcard on instagram etc. All these from the comfort of your home… But wait, are we not missing something here? This same home… Aren’t there people at home who benefit little or nothing from what you dish out to the public? Has this post of yours reached your parents or grandparents who have little or no access to the internet? What about your spouse who’s too busy to check Facebook? What about the kids?

Charity, they say, begins at home. How come you find it so easy and fun to chat with complete strangers for hours, whereas you are quick to lose your calm when admonishing your own kith and kin? No matter how busy your schedule is,  you can find time to discuss one or two ãyãt of the Quran, hadith or seeroh with your immediate family. As for siblings and extended family; calling, texting and, occasional visits should have a little dawah chip in.

Dawah must go on, far and wide. But we must never neglect ourselves and our families. Allaah said:

“O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are [appointed] angels, harsh and severe; they do not disobey Allah in what He commands them but do what they are commanded”. Quran chapter 66 verse 6.
